10 Natural Remedies for Treating Iron Deficiency Anemia

Iron deficiency anemia is a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body’s tissues.



As the name implies, iron deficiency anemia is due to insufficient iron. Without enough iron, the body can’t produce enough of a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen (hemoglobin).

Iron-rich foods include: dark-green leafy vegetables; brown rice; nuts and seeds; fish; dried fruit, such as dried apricots, prunes and raisins.

1. Apples
Apples are rich in iron and various other supplements. 2-3 apples in a day can fulfil a person’s need of iron for a day.

2. Honey
Honey is a powerful natural remedy for anaemia. Make a concoction of a tablespoon of honey, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar.
Eat this daily to cure anaemia. Honey increases haemoglobin in the blood and is rich in iron, manganese, and copper.

3. Beetroot
Beetroot is one of the iron rich vegetables on the earth. You can make a salad or can extract its juice. Beetroot juice can be mixed with spinach juice, apple juice, or carrot juice.

4. Almonds
Soak about 6-7 almonds in water for a night and eat it the next morning, after peeling its skin.

5. Spinach
It is an excellent remedy to overcome anemia. Spinach also works great when its juice is mixed with honey.

6. Dates, Prunes and Raisins
Dates, prunes and raisins are also good sources of iron and improve red blood cells in the body. These should be soaked overnight and taken with milk in the morning.

7. Animal Protein
Animal protein and organic meats (kidney and liver) are rich in vitamin B12 and iron, which are effective in the production of haemoglobin.

8. Milk
Add about 5-7 black pepper balls in 200ml of milk and boil it well in an iron vessel. This milk is good for the deficiency of iron and haemoglobin in the body.

9. Banana
Eat a ripe banana with two tablespoons honey, every day. It is an excellent natural remedy for overcoming anaemia.

10. Figs
Figs are a great source of iron. 3-4 figs daily can enrich your body with iron. Figs can also be consumed after soaking in water during the night and consuming early in the morning, daily.

Note: Tea, coffee, and cocoa should not be consumed with meals in patients with iron deficiency anemia. Polyphenols in these beverages inhibit the absorption of nonheme iron. Black tea appears to be the most potent in this regard.
